Hands and Fingers
Hands are one of the most important
appendages your model has.
it can grab things, gesture,
hold, and help convey the emotion your character
is experiencing.
here is a rundown on how they work:
there are two heirarchies in the
hand.
control bones:
thumb
index
middle
ring
pinky
and the bones that hold the geometry
thumb1, Thumb2, Thumb3
Index1, index2, index3
middle1, middle2, middle3
ring1, ring2, ring3
pinky1, pinky2, pinky3
The first set of bones, the bones
with '1' on the end of their names, are assigned to orient like
each of the control bones. Make
sure the Store Roll box is unchecked.
The second set, bones with 2 and
3 on the end of their names, are assigned to
Roll like each of the corresponding
control bones.
Your fingers in real life can only
bend in a hinge, except for the base of them, which can spread around.
When the 2 and 3 bones Roll
like the control, they look like they bend on a hinge.
Curling and positioning one finger
on your model takes only one bone.

So, to spread a finger, rotate the bone normally, and to curl a finger,
use the roll handle.
Cool, huh?
